The 12th-century castle was razed by Louis XIV in 1706; only the 16th-century Tour Bellanda remains. It is a fabulous place for picnics.

After a wander around the village where every street is full of charm and history, the tour takes you to Monaco, for a visit to the Cathedral where Princess Grace is buried, the Palace and for a drive along the Formula One race circuit. Our tour of Cannes will include the famous Croisette and the Palace of Film where the International Film Festival is held. The 'Croisette' is fringed by fine sandy beaches, much of them taken over as private beaches by the large hotels and it is there that the prestigious receptions and parties take place during the Cannes Festival. Then it's onto the well-known medieval village of St Paul de Vence, where so many painters and actors live. You will feel its very typical 'Provencal' atmosphere and admire the fortified village - one of the best preserved examples in the South of France, its narrow winding streets, vaulted alleyways and beautiful arcades. You could also opt to use the 24hrs French Riviera Pass which offers you discounts and free access to tens of leisure activities, visits or restaurants of the French Riviera. With a single card, admire the bay of Angels from the top-deck of the Nice le Grand Tour sightseeing bus; stop off to visit the main sights and muséums, go on a guided tour or do some regional wine-tasting OR you could also opt to take a train to Tende which is just 2 hours away. Tende is a fortified town guarding an important pass into the Piemont. It's a very lovely little Italian-style medieval mountain town, with the houses grouped tightly together on the flank of the mountain. Buildings are typically medieval houses and alpine architecture, with narrow streets, vaulted passages and sculpted door lintels. The houses are roofed inlauze, a local variant of slate, and are often dark in the shadow of the mountains. Back to Nice. Overnight in Nice.
